Although many states are experiencing record-breaking levels of snowfall and cold temperatures, here in New York, we’ve been experiencing significantly warmer weather than is typical for this time of year. Because of that, homeowners have had more time than usual to prepare their property for cold weather. If you still need to handle this important task, what are some things you might add to your to-do list this year?

Get your home’s heating system inspected, cleaned, or repaired. You definitely don’t want to find out that there’s a major issue in the middle of sub-zero temperatures! And if you have a fireplace, having your chimney cleaned can prevent fire hazards, among other things. If you have trees close to your home, check them for damage – you don’t want limbs falling on your roof! If you have expensive patio furniture or lawn care equipment, why not put those away indoors, or at least cover them to protect them from rain and snow?
