There’s a type of roofing material that’s been around for hundreds of years and has never gone out of style. Clay tile roofs are a popular, good-looking, durable feature that many homeowners have spent a lot of time and money investing in. Even though clay tile roofs have a distinctly southwestern appearance, they can still be found here in the northeast.
Clay roofs can last a long time for a variety of reasons. They’re more fire-resistant than many other roofing materials. Clay is also impervious to rot, and can’t be infested by insects. For these and other reasons, though clay tile roofing may be a bit more expensive to install – perhaps requiring the expertise of a specialist – there’s a good chance that a clay tile roof can last longer than other types of roofs, saving you replacement costs in the long term. One of the big downsides to clay roofing, though, is that it’s significantly heavier than other materials, and may require more structural support.
