Living in an older home, your windows might not be in the greatest shape anymore, but with a little bit of work, they can be brought back to working order in no time.

One of the most common problems with old windows is that they don’t shut out the elements as well as they used to. This might be either due to rotten or damaged wood or cracks around the frame.

To keep the rot from spreading, you want to cut away all traces of rotten wood. Leaving even a little bit will allow it to keep spreading. Once all the old wood is removed, restore the area using epoxy wood-filler, sand it down and apply paint. Your window will look like new!

If there are cracks around your window, use caulk and weatherstripping to seal them up. This should make it so you will no longer have a problem with drafts in your home.

These methods might cost you some time and labor, but compared to buying and installing new windows, it is a huge saving.
