What child doesn’t love a playground? Unfortunately, there are some dangers inherent in these, and there are hundreds of thousands of injuries in the U.S. each year. If you have a playground on your property, here are some things to consider.
If you have equipment with moving parts, make sure it is not too close to other equipment. Check that there are no places where a child’s hands can get stuck and crushed.
Keep the equipment in good repair. Rusty or damaged equipment can pose a hazard.
Make sure the equipment is on a soft ground surface. Cement or asphalt is not appropriate since a fall on these will be more likely to cause damage.
Keep the area clean of garbage or debris that can be a trip hazard.
If you have swings, they should be at least 24 inches apart and at least 30 inches from the frame.
