Winter can be a cozy time. Many people love hot cocoa, sledding, and making fires. Something that no one likes, though, is a higher heating bill. What can you do to keep it down a bit?

For starters, think about furniture placement in your rooms. Is there any furniture that is up against your radiator or vents, blocking the airflow? Move them away a bit to allow the warm air to easily fill the room. If you have hard surface floors, cover them with area rugs to keep the room warmer. During the day, open your blinds and curtains to let the sunshine stream in and warm the rooms. But at night, make sure to cover your windows to help keep that warmth in. Be sure to seal cracks around your doors and windows. If your door has any gaps, use weather strips. If your windows are older, it may be advantageous to winterize them.

Lastly, wear some cozy clothes. Some people like to dress in shorts and t-shirts like it’s summer, but if you want to save on your heating bill, wear some warmer clothes inside and keep the temperature a bit lower.
