You might notice that some of the double pane windows in your home seem foggy or misty. Usually this will be due to the failure of the silica desiccant that keeps moisture from entering the window. When this seal fails, the only solutions are to either repair or replace the window.
There is a layer of gas in-between the panes of your window which works as an insulator, and this layer is normally moisture free.
The reason that the seal will break is the natural expansion of gas when it is heated up. This will cause the window panes to move back and forth, and over time, this will cause stress to the seal and slowly cause it to fail.
Many times the problem will be worse on the sunny side of the house since there will be greater variations in temperature there.
This problem is not only unsightly, but your windows will not insulate your home as well when the seal has failed.
